China says attempts to join world trade body has become bogged down
China says its attempt to join the World Trade Organisation hasbecome bogged down by disputes, casting doubt on whether it will join the global trade body this year.
China's Minister for Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation Shi Guangsheng, says multilateral negotiations in Switzerland are still deadlocked over agricultural and industrial subsidies, and foreign entry into certain service markets.
Speaking to journalists in the Chinese capital Beijing, Mr Shi declined to pinpoint an exact date for China's entry into the WTO.
But, he did say the move was "a forgone conclusion".
Earlier this year, Mr Shi said China would not be likely to acceed to the WTO before October or November this year.
One of the main isseus in the talks has been the issue of agricultural subsidies especially for grain.
