Vietnam court hands down death sentence for two drug traffickers
A Vietnamese court has sentenced two men to death for trafficking in heroin.
Court officials say the two condemned were sentenced by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Court after they were convicted of trafficking 580 grammes of heroin, with a street value of 13-thousand dollars.
The court also sentenced other six defendants to jail terms of between eight and 20 years.
Under Vietnamese law, anyone found in possession of 100 grams of heroin or five kilograms of opium can face execution.
At least 85 people were sentenced to death for drug trafficking last year, against 76 in 1999 and 58 the previous year.
