Philippines protests to China over territory dispute

The Philippine Vice President has summoned China's ambassador to protest against the incursion of Chinese boats off a disputed outcrop in the South China Sea.

Manila also expressed "grave concern" over the incursion of two Chinese fishing vessels off the Scarborough Shoal earlier this week.

The incident was reported by the Philippine air force.

China was told to caution Chinese fishing vessels against straying into the area.

The shoal, a rocky outcrop off the western coast of the main Philippine island of Luzon, is hotly contested by China and the Philippines.
