Indian prime minister calls for accountability in military
The Indian government has shrugged off calls from the oppsition demanding its resignation over a bribery scandal.
The opposition Congress Party says the ruling coalition has lost the moral authority to rule.
Opposition leader, Sonia Gandhi, launched a scathing attack on the crisis-hit government ridiculing a judicial probe ordered by Indian Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajapayee into the scandal.
However, the prime minister remained defiant and called for increased "probity, transparency and accountability" within the military.
The arms bribery scandal erupted on Tuesday, alleging rampant corruption within the Indian defence ministry.
The expose led to a furore in parliament and the resignation of defence minister George Fernandes.
