Taiwan shows military might on Kinmen island
Taiwan has displayed its military might while calling on Beijing to resume talks to resolve their long-standing sovereignty dispute.
Armoured vehicles, tanks and ground troops were mobilised to show the anti-paratrooper capability of Kinmen, a fortified island just miles from the Chinese coastal city of Xiamen.
The display also showed the operation of a 27-centimetre howitzer and a group of frogmen performing combat manouevres on a beach.
The defense ministry said the demonstration was aimed at showing the military's combat readiness on Kinmen had not been reduced despite the easing of tensions between Taiwan and the communist regime in Beijing.
