Chinese Communist Party strengthens rules against corruption
The Chinese Communist Party has announced new rules restricting the business activity of local officials' immediate families.
The directive from the Central Commission of Discipline Inspection bars the spouses or children of provincial and city officials from certain businesses if they're regulated by that official.
These include running real estate companies, acting as "advisers" or working as lawyers.
The official People's Daily newspaper says the directive also covers night clubs and saunas and "other businesses that may cause conflicts with public interest."
Correspondents say it's the latest move by the party to curtail official corruption which has been eroding public support for both the party and government.
