Thailand and Burma to work to improve ties
Thailand's Foreign Minister says his country and Burma will begin the process of trying to mend their soured relations when the foreign ministers of the two countries meet Wednesday in Chile.
Surakiart Sathirathai will meet Burma's Foreign Minister Win Aung on the sidelines of a meeting of the East Asia-Latin America Forum this week in Chile to discuss cooperation in various fields.
The meeting will be the first ever among top officials of the two countries following the arrival of a new Thai government and the start of renewed border conflicts last month.
Mr Surakiart is expected to propose a memorandum of understanding on antidrug cooperation with Burma.
The proposal, if accepted by Rangoon, would be a step forward to a tripartite cooperation between Thailand, Burma and China to tackle narcotics problems.
