Vietnam takes inspiration from Singapore's economic policies
A high-ranking delegation of Vietnamese economic officials is in Singapore to study the thriving republic's economic strategies.
The delegation, headed by Nguyen Mai, a senior economic advisor to Vietnamese Prime Minister Phan Van Khai, will also study Singapore's approach to attracting foreign direct investment and its views on the world economy and trade.
Singapore takes an aggressive line in attracting both direct foreign investment and foreign expertise to bolster its economy and workforce.
It is also actively seeking free trade agreements with economies around the world, a move which has drawn criticism from some quarters in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
the Singapore International Foundation which is hosting the mission says the visitor's mandate covers all aspects of Vietnam's external economic relations from a high policy point of view.
It says the Vietnamese are especially interested in the importance of multi-national companies in the total flow of foreign direct investment in Singapore.
