US navy plane in emergency landing after interception
A US navy aircraft has been damaged after it was intercepted by two Chinese fighter jets during a surveillance mission over the South China Sea.
US Pacific Command said there was contact between one of the Chinese aircraft and the navy plane, causing sufficient damage for the US plane to issue a 'Mayday' signal and divert to an airfield on Hainan Island.
None of the 24 crew were reported to have been injured.
