New Delhi car blast raises questions over gas conversion

An environment-friendly car equipped to run on compressed natural gas has exploded in New Delhi, raising questions over a plan to convert the polluted Indian city's fleet of petrol buses to gas.

The explosion occurred when the car's gas cylinder burst as it was being refuelled.

Police said five people in the vicinity were injured.

Over the past week the Indian capital has witnessed a transport meltdown following a Supreme Court ruling that all bus operators must switch from petrol to compressed natural gas by April 1 or stay off the roads.
