Thai authorities to move on separatists in country's south
Thai authorities have launched a plan to wipe out a Muslim rebellion in the country's south, after separatists were blamed for a string of deadly bombings.
After the attacks that left one child dead and nearly 50 people injured, Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra vowed to crush the long-running insurgency in the five southern provinces bordering Malaysia.
As part of the new get-tough approach, police and army units will be drafted in to flush out the rebels. . A security crackdown has also been mounted to protect tourists over the upcoming holiday weekend, when the important Thai festival of Songkran coincides with the busy Easter break.
