Australia, India to strengthen defence links

Australia and India have agreed to pursue stronger security and defence links.

The foreign ministers of both countries met in the South Australian capital, Adelaide, today to discuss a proposed security dialogue, which would include defence links.

But Australia's Foreign Minister Alexander Downer has refused to be drawn on how Australia might respond if India resumes nuclear testing.....an issue which caused tension between the two countries in 1998.

Well that's a sort of beating your wife question. We saw the advent of India nuclear testing and Pakistani nuclear testing as a setback. Now since then India has brought in a moratorium on testing and I think India is a country we can work with and work with extremely well.
