Warnings of economic slowdown in East Asia
The Asian Development Bank has prediected that East Asis faces a sharp fall in economic growth this year.
The bank says South Korea and Malaysia are likely to see the sharpest slowdowns amid a faster than expected global downturn
The Manila-based bank says a recovery is possible next year but it is by no means guaranteed.
The bank says Indonesia's political situation, the hostage crisis in the Philippines and charges of concealed wealth against the Thai leader have all contributed to the downturn.
It says none of the five countries most affected by the Asian financial crisis -- Indonesia, South Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines and Thailand -- have regained their pre-1997 sovereign credit ratings.
