Nepal searches for new prime minister
Nepal's ruling party is holding an emergency meeting to find a successor to Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala.=(gi-ridge-u pra-sard kori-lu)
The prime minister resigned yesterday over the growing violence by Maoist rebels.
Party officials say the Nepali Congress party's Central Working Committee willl make a recommendation on a successor.
A formal decision is expected this weekend.
Mr Koirala won power in March last year promising to fight corruption and end a Maoist revolt.
But he's quit in the face of growing pressure from the opposition and dissidents within his party.
His resignation comes as government troops close in on Maoist rebels holding 70 policemen hostage in Nepal's western Himalayan foothills.
The rebels, who are fighting to topple the nation's constitutional monarchy, have also demanded the release of their jailed comrades.
