Nepal releases 10 more Maoist rebels

The Nepalese government has released 10 Maoist rebels from jail as a goodwill gesture ahead of expected talks between authorities and the insurgents.

The move follows the release of 15 imprisoned Maoist activists last week after the new prime minister and the Maoist leadership called a truce.

According to the Maoists, there are around 300 rebels in government custody, while they claim to be holding at least 250 policemen.

The guerrillas have been fighting since 1996 to overthrow the constitutional monarchy.
