Vietnam prepares initial offer in talks to join World Trade group

Vietnam has prepared an initial offer of market-opening commitments that it will present in negotiations to join the World Trade Organization.

Officials in Hanoi say the initial offer, which includes commitments in the areas of services, investment and copyrights, was discussed at a meeting of the National Committee for International Economic Cooperation.

The offer must be approved by the government and will then be sent to the W-T-O to serve as the basis for future negotiations on Vietnam's entry into the world trade body.

Officials say a new round of negotiations on Vietnam's entry is expected to begin in Geneva later this year.
