President Bush leaves Washington bound for APEC summit in China

US President George W Bush has left Washington en route to China for the Asia Pacific summit in Shanghai where he hopes to enlist support for his war on terrorism and to talk about ways to revive global growth.

A White House official says Air Force One took off from Andrews Air Force Base near Washington headed for Sacramento, California, where he plans to speak to business executives and military personnel.

Making his first foreign trip since the September 11th terrorist attacks, Mr Bush was then to fly to Shanghai for the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation summit.
