Powerful quake devastates region in China

An earthquake in southern China which measured 6.0 on the Richter scale toppled more than 3,400 buildings and killed at least three people.

Local reports earlier said more than 130 people were injured in the quake which rocked a remote area of Yunnan Province yesterday.

Xinhua says rescue teams set up tents late yesterday and today began distributing rice, food oil and other supplies to the victims.

Medical teams and police were also dispatched after the early afternoon earthquake.
