Indonesian airforce grounds half of its fighters
Half of Indonesia's fighter aircraft have been grounded because of the US military embargo.
the Jakarta Post quotes air force chief of staff, Marshal Hanafie Asnan, as saying that out of a total of 233 US-made military aircraft, only between 40 percent and 50 percent can be flown.
He says US officials recently made noises about lifting the embargo, but so far they have not honoured their promise.
Washington cancelled all military cooperation following the violence in East Timor sparked by the August 1999 vote for independence from Jakarta.
The US military chief for the Pacific Admiral Dennis Blair says Indonesia's armed forces should account for that violence before they can resume full military cooperation with Washington.
