Chinese Vice President to visit US this month

China's Vice President, Hu Jintao, will visit the United States, Malaysia and Singapore this month.

Mr Hu, the expected successor to President Jiang Zemin, will visit the United States at the invitation of America's Vice President, Dick Cheney.

The visit was agreed to in principle during the February 20th visit of U-S President George W-Bush to Beijing, but a recent deterioration in Sino-US relations had cast a pall over the planned trip.
