Signs that Burma's democracy leader may be released from house arrrest

There are more indications that Burma's pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi may soon be released from house arrest in Rangoon.

A leader of her National League for Democracy party says she is confident of being freed after recently meeting senior leaders of the ruling junta.

The U.N. Special Envoy to Burma, Paulo Pinheiro, says the release will help promote further dialogue between the military government and the opposition.

"This will be a very important sign of the commitment of the government to go on with the political dialogue with the opposition. I think the international community must continue what I'd call a principal engagement, that is, to continue engaging in conversations and dialogue in assisting the process."
