Pakistan appeals for world help over Kasmir tensions with India
Pakistan has called for increased international efforts to make India see reason and begin negotiations over the future of the disputed state of Kashmir.
The appeal by foreign ministry spokesman Aziz Ahmed Khan follows a fourth day of artillery duels fought between Indian and Pakistani troops at the border.
The skirmishes erupted after India blamed Pakistan-based guerrillas for an attack last Tuesday in Jammu, the Kashmiri winter capital, that killed 35 people, mostly wives and children of Indian soldiers.
Pakistan's President General Pervez Musharraf has called a meeting of his cabinet and the National Security Council to review the escalation of border tensions as Indian political analysts say the two nuclear rivals are heading towards an all out war.
United States Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage is due to arrive in Pakistan early next month.
While Britain's chief of defence staff Admiral Sir Michael Boyce will visit India for two days this week.
