Heat wave hits Pakistan

A blistering heat wave has killed 96 people in central and southern Pakistan over the past three weeks.

More than 250 people had been hospitalised over the past two days in the worst-hit areas in central Punjab province and southern Sindh.

Authorities said 56 people have died in southern Punjab alone since the heat wave settled over the region at the beginning of May.

While heat waves are normal, a health ministry spokesman says pollution and continuous dry weather have added to the miseries of the people.
