Sri Lankan leader discusses civil war with Indian leaders
Sri Lankan President Chandrika Kumaratunga has held talks with Indian leaders on the two-decade-old civil war in her country and efforts to revive the SAARC regional forum.
In talks with Indian Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee it was decided the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation standing committee of senior officials would meet in May.
However he said the meeting would be subject to approval of all member nations.
Reports from Colombo said Ms Kumaratunga, whose country holds the rotating chairmanship of the seven-member forum, would try to persuade India to agree to an early meeting during her two-day visit.
India has opposed a meeting in protest at Pakistan's military ruler General Pervez Musharraf's seizure of power in October 1999 in a coup.
