India boosts defence spending India has significantly increased its annual defence spending for second consecutive year. Indian finance minister Yashwant Sinha has promised around 26 million dollars to the military for the new financial year which begins in April . Presenting his annual budget to the parliament Mr Sinha has pushed up defence allocation by almost 13 per cent. The latest increase follows last year's massive jump of 28 per cent prompted partly by India and Pakistan coming to the brink of war in Kashmir in 1999. Reacting immediately Pakistan said it was deeply concerned by India's growing defence expenditure. 1/03/01 2:52:40 | ABC Radio Australia News
