Indian government feels heat over bribery scandal
The Indian government has come under increasing pressure over a bribery scandal.
Opposition members of parliament are not satisfied by promises of a full inquiry and the suspension of senior defence officials.
Both houses of parliament were adjourned amid uproar for the second straight day, as opposition MPs stormed the floor calling for the entire cabinet to resign, with Defence Minister George Fernandes the chief target.
There were also angry exchanges outside the parliament.
Security guards had to separate MPs from the ruling BJP party and the main opposition Congress.
The scandal erupted after a sting operation run by a news website whose journalists posed as arms dealers to expose corruption in defence procurement circles.
Senior politicians, civil servants and army officers were caught on film apparently taking bribes to facilitate the prospects of a fake company seeking to sell equipment to the Indian military.
