Vietnamese border guard killed in Vietnam
A Vietnamese border guard was killed and his five colleagues seriously injured while escorting two drug traffickers to a border post in central Vietnam.
The A-F-P newagency reported sublieutenant Pham Xuan Phong, 31, died on the spot when the drug traffickers threw a grenade into the group.
One of the traffickers was arrested on the following day.
Local police have launched a manhunt for the other.
The number of drug-related crimes has been on the rise in Vietnam in recent years since the country became a major transshipment point for narcotics produced in the notorious "Golden Triangle" opium-growing region where Burma, Laos and Thailand meet.
