Vietnam youth leader said to have faked qualifications
The ideology chief of the youth wing of Vietnam's ruling communist party stands accused of fraudlently obtaining a politics degree to demand a pay rise.
The mass-circulation trade union daily Lao Dong says Dinh Duc Lap, who is his 40s, has presented party youth chiefs with a self criticism over the scam which was uncovered last September.
But so far he has only received a reprimand, the paper says and it is demanding that he be more severely punished.
In recent months the official media here has carried a string of articles bemoaning the growing use of fake school certificates and university degrees, even among party and state officials.
Poor pay has sparked mounting corruption in an educational system which has given Vietnam one of the highest literacy rates in the region and has long been the pride of the regime.
