Nine killed in Kashmir after attack by Muslim militants
At least nine people, including four security personnel, were killed in separate attacks by suspected Islamic militants in troubled Kashmir.
The Press Trust of India news agency says the rebels shot dead one paramilitary soldier in Bandipora, 25 kilometres north of Srinagar, while nearby an explosion detonated by militants killed a Border Security Force soldier and wounded another. The news agency says the army and police shot and killed five suspected militants in two separate clashes in Baramulla and Badgam districts. Police say the militants also ambushed an army vehicle on a highway near Srinagar and shot and killed one soldier and wounded five others.
