Singapore and Australia to hold their second round of formal negotiati
Singapore and Australia are to hold their second round of formal negotiations on a bilateral free trade agreement.
The week of talks -- starting in Canberra on Monday -- follow an initial round in Singapore in February.
Singapore Prime Minister, Goh Chok Tong, and Australia's John Howard, launched the free trade effort in November, saying they wanted the deal completed by the end of this year.
Australia is seeking increased access to Singapore's banking, insurance and telecommunications industries, and recognition of the qualifications of Australian professionals such as engineers, architects and lawyers.
Singapore is seeking easier entry for its electronics, petrochemicals and motor vehicle components, plus access to Australian Government procurement contracts.
