Norway pushes Sri Lanka peace deal

Norway's top envoy in Sri Lanka is reportedly holding talks with Tamil separatists for a second day in a bid to arrange face-to-face talks between the warring sides.

The Norwegian ambassador, Jon Westborg, crossed army lines and travelled to the Wanni stronghold of the separatist Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam for the talks.

The Voice of Tigers radio announced that Westborg held two hours of talks on Friday with the LTTE's political wing leader Thamil Chelvam and three others.

The Norwegian diplomat went for talks after the Colombo government eased economic sanctions on Tiger-held areas in the island's north.
