Vietnam communists launch key talks on future of leadership
Vietnam's ruling communist party has begun a closed-door meeting aimed at deciding the fate of the country's top leadership ahead of a five-yearly party congress later this month.
The party's powerful 170-member central committee gathered amid great secrecy in the capital, Hanoi. .
An official said the meeting at party headquarters was expected to last between five and seven days although the exact duration would depend on the progress of the talks.
He said the committee had got straight down to debating the thorny issue of the leadership, but he declined to elaborate on the content of the discussions or their likely outcome.
