Chinese president meets Argentinian counterpart
China's President Jiang Zemin has met his Argentinian counterpart Fernando de la Rua for discussions aimed at boosting bilateral trade.
The two presidents have travelled from Buenos Aires to a ranch northwest of the capital for a working lunch and an exchange of ideas about trade and bilateral relations.
They are expected to sign a number of bilateral protocols on commercial and biotechnology exchanges during President Jiang's visit to Argentina.
Interest in the Chinese president's trip has been boosted by the current diplomatic standoff between China and the United States over a US spy plane downed in China.
However, President Jiang ignored the standoff in a statement to the press issued on his arrival in Argentina.
