Australia pressures Laos to free Brisbane couple

A round of shuttle diplomacy is underway to try to free Australians Kay and Kerry Danes, who've been imprisoned in Laos for three months.

The Laotian ambassador to Australia, Soutsakhone Pathammavong, tonight.

The Foreign Minister, Alexander Downer, says the Laotian Ambassador was called in because the case has dragged on too long.

The Australian Government is very, very determined to do the right thing by the Danes. I'm very concerned about them. There are two people who have now been in prison for over three months. The conditions in the prison are getting progressively worse as the temperature rises in Vientiane. They have not been charged. And for people to be held for over three months without even being charged I think is quite disgraceful.
