China calls again for apology from US
China's foreign ministry has issued a new call for an apology from the United States in the standoff over the mid-air collision involving a US spy plane and a Chinese fighter jet.
Speaking at a news conference in the Argentine capital Buenos Aires, foreign ministry spokesman Zhu Bangzao said that if the US did not apologise, it would make it more difficult to find a solution to what he termed 'this very serious incident in which China is the victimised country.'
He said that China was extremely dissatisfied with US statements on the matter, and noted that China "has every right to carry out an investigation, and to accord the crew such treatment as is adequate according to our laws."
Mr Zhu is travelling with Chinese President Jiang Zemin who arrived in Argentina on Saturday as part of a 12-day tour through Latin America.
