Iran says strong regional cooperation needed to combat US intefrerence

Iran's Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has told India's visiting Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee that stronger regional cooperation was needed to combat what he called worldwide U.S. "interference."

Khamenei told Mr Vajpayee - who is on an official visit to Iran - that no country should accept the interference of America in all world issues.

He also urged Vajpayee, the first Indian prime minister to visit Iran since 1993, to seek a peaceful settlement of India's dispute with Pakistan over Kashmir, the only Indian state with a Muslim majority.

Iran backs a peaceful solution to the Kashmir dispute through dialogue between the concerned parties but criticizes India for excessive use of force against the Muslim Kashmiri citizens.
