Taiwan considers fresh bid to join WHO
Taiwan plans to renew its bid to join the World Health Organisation next month despite China's previous blocking attempts.
The Liberty Times saysTaiwan will send a delegation of officials and medical experts to Geneva when the WHO holds a general assembly in mid-May, Taipei last attempted an entry bid in 1999 after a devastating earthquake struck the island.
Taiwan, which China regards as part of its territory awaiting reunification, was forced out of the WHO in 1972, a year after Beijing took over Taipei's seat in the United Nations.
Taipei has since been barred from joining major world bodies.
