US President defends his decision on Taiwanese arms sales
United States President George W. Bush has defended his decision to sell an arms package to Taiwan.
In an interview with the US magazine Time, President Bush said his job was to uphold the spirit of the Taiwan Relations act, and that he'd done so with what he described as a 'robust' package.
In the interview, President Bush also said it was right for the United States to trade with China.
China has warned that the President's decision earlier this week to sell Taiwan a five-billion-dollar package of sophisticated weapons had taken the US a step down a "dangerous road."
Beijing has also cautioned President Bush that he's moving into dangerous territory with his pledge to do 'what it takes' to protect Taiwan from Chinese attack.
