US team travelling to China A team of U-S military engineers is travelling to China to inspect the damaged spyplane that caused a diplomatic row when it collided with a Chinese fighter jet. The US ambassador to Beijing has confirmed that a team of expert engineers and assessors will travel via Hawaii before heading to inspect the damaged EP-3 reconnaissance plane, still on a military airport runway on southern Hainan island. Embassy officials in Beijing expect the team to fly straight to Haikou on Hainan island, before travelling further south to Lingshui military base where authorities say the inspection will take place. This week's public holiday in China has left embassy officials unsure about when and for how long the assessment will take place, but military analysts say the damage to the plane may necessitate a return trip. There's also speculation the plane won't be allowed to leave China before compensation is negotiated. 30/04/01 21:01:19 | ABC Radio Australia News
