Indonesia to raise domestic air fares
Indonesian domestic airline fares are set to rise
This follows a decision by the Indonesian National Air Carriers Association to adjust to a new rupiah exchange rate to the dollar.
The Jakarta Post newspaper quotes the Association chairman, Wahyu Hidayat, as saying the organization had decided to adjust its exchange rate to 5,000-9,000 rupiah per dollar, from the previous band of 4,000-7,000 rupiah.
The airlines earn revenue in rupiah, but have to pay expenses in dollars.
The Association chairman says the implementation of the price increase will be up to each individual airline with the state-owned service, PT Merpati Nusantara, of which he is president, will raise fares from June 1st.
