Indon leader meets Philippines president

Indonesian president Adburrahman Wahid has met with his Filipino counterpart Gloria Arroyo in Manila.

As Shirley Escalante reports the short but cordial working visit tackled mostly bilateral ties and the Philippines peace process with Muslim rebels.

Visiting Indonesian President Abdurrahman Wahid and Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo met in Manila today for only five hours. Wahid's visit to Manila was a mere stopover in his official travel to Australia and New Zealand. Asked by reporters on what transpired at their meeting here's what President Arroyo said. "The visit on his part to congratulate me in my assession of President of the Philippines. On my part I took the opportunity to thank him for all that he and his government and his country had been doing to help the Philippines with all its problems in southern Philippines, in Mindanao." Aside from the peace process and expanding bilateral ties, President Arroyo was asked by reporters if President Wahid tried to solicit her support amidst corruption charges and possible impeachment which he is facing back home. To this President Arroyo said NO and implied that she will be careful not to interfere in the internal affairs of Indonesia.
