Nepalese PM to hold talks with rebels

Plans by Nepal's new Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba's to hold talks with Maoist rebels has been approved the ruling party.

The Nepali Congress says it welcomes the prime minister's peace initiative to end the insurgency that began in 1996 and has cost more than 17-hundred lives.

Following the prime minister's appointment last month, both the government and the Maoists called a truce.

The prime minister will hold a meeting early next week with leaders of all political parties to discuss the proposed dialogue with the Maoist leaders.
