One person killed and second injured in Indonesian explosion

One person has been killed and another injured in a blast in Indonesia.

Police say the blast is the latest in a series of explosions in cities on the main island of Java, as Mark Bowling reports from Jakarta:

In Indonesia's second largest city, Surabaya, an explosion this morning rocked a residential area, killing one and injuring another. The suspected bomb was planted near the front entrance of a house. Last night a powerful bomb exploded outside the home of a church leader in Jogyakarta. There have been several unsolved bomb attacks in Indonesia in recent months amid political tension that climaxed in the ousting of the country's first democratically elected leader, Abdurrahman Wahid by the Parliament, late last month. Yesterday, Prosecutors demanded the death sentence for a car repair shop owner on trial for allegedly masterminding the bombing of the Jakarta Stock Exchange last September, which killed 10 people and injured 46 others.
