Thai Prime Minister honoured for promoting ties with Cambodia
Cambodia's King Norodom Sihanouk has conferred an honorary medal on visiting Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra for his efforts to promote ties with Cambodia since taking office this year.
Foreign Minister Hor Namhong says the "Sahametrei Mohasereiwat" medal is awarded to a senior figure who has promoted cooperation with Cambodia.
The award ceremony was held at the royal palace, with Thaksin accompanied by an 18-member delegation.
It was the first time that King Sihanouk had presented the medal to a prime minister, the foreign minister said.
Shortly before leaving Cambodia, Mr Thaksin told reporters, he felt very honored because the medal is the expression of the very cordial relations between our two countries..
During his one-day trip to Cambodia, Thaksin dined with Prime Minister Hun Sen and held talks on various issues including the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit to be held in Cambodia next year.
