US jets fly over Afghanistan attacking Taliban bases near Kabul
Low-flying jets have swooped over Afghan cities, attacking militia bases of the ruling Taliban and hitting a fuel dump in Kabul - forcing fighters and their tanks to flee for safer cover.
Taliban supreme leader Mullah Mohammad Omar told his men that they were fighting a jihad, or holy war, and death was nothing to fear because they were certain to defeat the "great infidel".
Kabul awoke to powerful explosions a day after a Red Cross warehouse was mistakenly hit. US planes strafed the southern city of Kandahar, powerbase of Mullah Omar, with the The Taliban reporting at least 20 killed in the city and nearby districts. Meanwhile, Iranian state radiohas reported that the US infantry landed from helicopters today near Kandahar in southwest Afghanistan, stronghold of Taliban leader Mullah Mohammad Omar and suspected terrorist mastermind Osama bin Laden.
The radio report said US helicopters from the Pakistani-Afghan border have entered Afghan territory and deployed troops around Kandahar.
