Nepal on alert after bin Laden threat

Security at Nepal's international airport has been stepped up following threats of a terrorist attack.

Police in India say they have information that a cell linked to Osama bin Laden was planning to hijack a Singapore airliner from Nepal and crash it into New Delhi.

It's believed the New Delhi residences of Indian Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee and U-S Ambassador Robert Blackwill were under threat.

Indian officials say the threat was made to Singapore Airlines which runs flights from Singapore to Madras to Khatmandu.

All passengers entering Kathmandu airport, including political, police and army officials, are now being thoroughly checked.
