Militia from Afghan minority move toward Kabul
American bombers and opposition Northern Alliance forces have continued their attacks on the dwindling number of Taliban strongholds in Afghanistan.
In the northern city of Konduz, up to 20-thousand Taliban fighters, many of them Arab and Chechen volunteers, are surrounded by opposition forces.
Meanwhile, Germany's Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder has narrowly won a vote of confidence in parliament on sending German troops to join the US-led anti-terrorist war.
The victory averted the collapse of his government and a possible early election, because pacifist deputies from Mr Schroeder's coalition parties had said they could not support his plans.
Rebel deputies backed down earlier today, ahead of the vote.
The government wants to mobilise up to 3,900 troops for the US-led Afghan campaign.
