Fifth Cambodian election candidate killed

A fifth candidate for Cambodia's first ever local district elections has been shot dead in Phnom Penh.

Forty year old Thom Pally, a candidate for the royalist FUNCINPEC party, was killed inside his home.

The murder comes on the eve of the arrival of a United Nations special envoy for human rights.

Pally's death is the second killing of an election candidate from FUNCIPEC in recent months.

FUNCINPEC and the Cambodia People's Party are preparing to contest the February 3 poll.
