Four journalists killed in Afghanistan as bombing enters sventh week
US special forces are intensifying their search for the alleged planner of the terror attacks on America, Osama bin Laden, but four journalists have been killed on the road from the eastern town of Jalalabad to Kabul.
Italian Foreign Minister Renato Ruggiero told a European Union foreign ministers' meeting in Brussels that the deaths are confirmed.
They were Julio Fuentes of Spain's El Mundo, Maria Grazia Cutuli of Italy, Reuters reporters Harry Burton, an Australian television cameraman, Harry Burton, and Azizullah Haidari, an Afghan-born journalist
The deaths came as the air strikes, entered their seventh week and US warplanes continue to pound Taliban positions around the besieged city of Kunduz, the Islamic militia's last holdout in northern Afghanistan.
As many as 30,000 fighters, are defending the city, including Arab, Chechen and Pakistani forces from bin Laden's al-Qaeda network of Islamic militants.
Alliance commanders have told the Taliban to surrender or die, but the militia are refusing to give up.
US officials say special forces troops are closing in bin Laden and the leaders of his al-Qaeda terror network as their Taliban protectors are either killed or surrender.
