UN chief concerned about Nepal killings
The United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan says he is deeply concerned about the flare-up in violence in Nepal.
The King has imposed a state of emergency after nearly 300 people were killed in rebel attacks which started last Friday.
Mr Annan's notes that the emergency was declared after Maoist rebels broke a four-month-long ceasefire and resumed armed actions in more than one third of the kingdom's districts.
He says he regrets that the insurgents abandoned peace talks with the government that started last August,
The rebels attacked police and army posts and local government offices across Nepal and the army was deployed for the first time in direct combat against the rebels.
